Our main objective is to find the most efficient and safe solutions possible for our existing operations at sea, while new challenges call for innovative ideas. The energy transition is heavily supported by smart technology and equipment. A challenge in which GustoMSC wants to play a significant role. We aim to create the ideas and innovations that our clients need to move forward as the global energy transition takes hold. We develop solutions to produce energy as efficiently as possible while minimizing the impact on the environment.
Offshore wind installations
GustoMSC is a market leader in the offshore wind installation market and is committed to developing new solutions to increase sustainability. We have enabled the offshore wind turbines market to become mature since the first pilot wind farms in the first decade of this century. Almost 80% of the North Sea offshore wind turbines have been installed with units designed and engineered by GustoMSC.
We are always looking forward to extending our offshore efforts together with our partners on a global scale. In 2019, we welcomed one of our clients to demonstrate our Telescopic Leg Crane, which is associated with the developing wind-turbine market, on a working scale model.
PUSHING OFFSHORE WIND EVEN FURTHER
Next to the wind installations units, we aim to play a significant role in the floating foundation market as well. As the global floating wind market is growing, it is moving from single prototypes to pilot farms with three to five floaters. With the first pilot farm installed in 2017, the first commercial-scale floating wind farms are expected between 2024 and 2030. Currently, GustoMSC is involved in several floating offshore wind projects worldwide, investigating the potential of Tri-Floater technology.
GustoMSC is continuously working on smart integration of energy storage technology on mobile offshore units. One of the developments is to optimize the consumption and power generation of wind turbine vessels by using temporary energy storage systems.
In order to assist rig owners in meeting the demand for lowering their carbon footprint, we are developing a CO2 emissions assessment tool. This tool will help quantify the impact of new technologies on the carbon footprint of offshore rigs.
We are also looking into the usage of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) as this is less polluting than oil and the use of hybrid technology that will help the rigs of the future not only to perform better but do so with a smaller carbon footprint.
